Russia Submitted Its Own Draft Resolution to UN Security Council

21.08.2008 09:48

According to the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin, last Wednesday Russian submitted to the UN Security Council its own draft resolution on Georgia basing on six principles of resolving the conflict agreed upon by the Heads of Russia and France on August 12.

Let us recall that on Tuesday France that chairs the EU submitted its draft resolution on the situation in Georgia. The document demands seize-fire on the sides of Russia and Georgia and immediate withdrawal of the Russian troops to the positions as of the day of the start of the combat activities. The draft also urges Tbilisi to immediately return its troops to the places of their permanent deployment.

In turn, Russian Ambassador to the UNO Vitaly Churkin said that Russia will not support the document in this revision because the French draft distorts the language and logic of the initial plan.
