Russian North Caucasus Military Command Ready to Assists Russian Peacekeepers in Case of Escalation of Situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Colonel-General Sergey Makarov, Commander of the Russian North Caucasus Military Command (NCMC), claimed that his troops are ready to render assistance to Russian peacekeepers in case of escalation of the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

"Main tasks of the NCMC troops in case of escalation of the situation and opening of hostilities between the parties of the conflict include rendering of assistance to Russian peacekeepers in disengagement of the conflicting parties, provision of humanitarian aid to the population residing in the zone of conflict as well as protection of rights and freedoms of the Russian citizens and evacuation of peaceful people from the zone of conflict”, Makarov said.

During exercises the NCMC troops practiced the respective operations in the NCMC training ranges and training centers in case of escalation of the situation in the zones of conflict. The General said: “I would like to assure you that the results of the conducted exercises and performed inspections confirm that the NCMC troops are fully-mission capable and ready to fulfill ant combat tasks to provide for peace and stability in the region”.
