Russia and the United States. North Korean incident. Whose point of view is correct?

12.07.2017 09:32

Last Tuesday another incident on Korean peninsula caused a huge public concern and a considerable number of disputes among the world powers. However, some experts do not exclude that this event could provoke an armed conflict between Russia and the United States.

It`s all about missile testing of "Hwaseong-14" made by the order of north Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un. This missile launch from North Korean territory was tracked by the Russian early warning system. It is believed to consist of two levels – the ground "Voronezh" radar and constellation. According to the reports of EWS "Hwaseong-14" climbed to an altitude of 535 km and flew about 510 km, falling in the Central part of the Sea of Japan. In this regard, the Japanese Secretary-General of the Cabinet protested North Korea, pinpointing the fact of the UN resolutions breach.

Security Council`s ongoing sanctions forbid Pyongyang to carry out any check out within the nuclear missile program. Nevertheless, North Korea ignored the bans, stating the "necessity of testing for defensive purposes, to restrain an aggressive U.S. foreign policy".

However, the main reason of disagreements between the parties was not even in the fact of launching but the performances of missiles. According to the official Pyongyang and Washington, the launch of an Intercontinental ballistic missile took place on 4 July. Russia has given evidence to the UN that "Hwaseong" had an average range. Confirmed telemetry data were received as a constituent part of the Russian early warning radar "Voronezh-VP" (Irkutsk region) that controls air space from the West coast of North America to India.

The US Ambassador to UN Nickey Haley stated that her country intended to provide intelligence data to prove the Intercontinental nature of the launch. However, the international community has never got any information of this kind so far.

Meanwhile the majority of experts support the position of the Russian Federation. "It would be madness to launch an Intercontinental ballistic missile against the United States - Vladimir Novikov says who is a researcher of the Center for Euro-Atlantic and defense studies at the Russian Institute of strategic studies. It means to sign up a death penalty. Even if the missile doesn’t reach the American borders, their defence system will shot it down. USA won’t doubt weather it was a nuclear missile or not."

In addition, the performance of the cutting-edge "Voronezh" radar system considerably outclass foreign analogues. For example, the range of the Russian radar is up to 3,700 miles, whereas the American radar AN/FPS-132 is only 3,100 miles. The response time of the Russian station is 40 milliseconds, while the foreign one is 60. For data processing, "Voronezh" takes 4 seconds less than the American counterpart.

Meanwhile, the Russian radar also has technologic advantages in comparison with the US-made one. "Voronezh", due to high unification can be  constructed in a period of 12-18 months. In addition, its power consumption has been significantly reduced. In general, weapons and military equipment developed by the Russian defense industry are considered to be the best in the world. And if we analyze this fact in the context of the international controversy concerning the North Korean ballistic missiles launches, we can easily say “the power is in the truth”.
