Putin: Russian-Chinese Relations Develop Positively
Relations between Moscow and Beijing have been evolving "in quite a positive way", during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
As you may know, our relations with China have been evolving in quite a positive way", Putin noted. "We call it a comprehensive strategic partnership", the Russian president added.
"Indeed, our relations have developed their own unique character", Putin said. "This particularly concerns our cooperation on the international stage where we always seek and find common approaches to the most complex issues and often times speak in one voice", he stressed.
"Of course, we will continue to cooperate with China within international organizations, including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)", the Russian leader said adding that an SCO summit would soon be held in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana.
In addition, Moscow is ready to cooperate with Beijing in the Silk Road Economic Belt project, Putin noted. The Russian President stressed the need to join efforts with Beijing in relation to China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the Russian-initiated Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
"Russia is interested in strengthening ties with China, one of the largest economies in the world which has a huge market," the Russian leader said. Besides, Putin emphasized that cooperation in the infrastructure sphere was "priceless". "In my view, it is of global importance, both Russia and China are interested in it so we will work together", Putin added.
"Moreover, the situation has been evolving positively in the border areas, where bridges are being built, cross-border trade is developing and inter-regional cooperation between Russia and China is in full swing. People visit each other, hold various cultural events and economic forums", the Russian leader concluded.
