Polish hysteria has acquired a chronic form
The new defense concept of Poland emphasizes that Russia represents the main threat for all Eastern and Central Europe. The concept expressed concern about the increase in the intensity of military exercises in Russia, which, according to the authors of the document, testifies to Moscow's "aggressive" plans.
Fixation in official documents of the Eastern Europe countries and the Baltic states of similar theses becomes a "visiting" card for the political leadership of these countries, whose actions clearly indicate the desire to obtain additional funding for defense. However, the imposition of the idea of a "military threat" from Russia is also designed to distract the attention of the population from intra-state problems.
"The deterrent value in this case is secondary: it is a political step, focused primarily on domestic Eastern European consumption", Michael Kaufman, an American military expert at the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center noted.
Meanwhile, NATO develops offensive weapons in the border areas with the Russian Federation and trains troops for offensive operations, however continues to insist on the defensive nature of her actions. At the same time, the official representatives of the alliance continue to accuse Russia of escalating tensions in the region, thereby creating the image of an "aggressor" to justify the increase in number of NATO's military grouping. And here it should be added that the anti-Russian rhetoric of the Eastern European political elites has found a response in Brussels, having an acute shortage of arguments in favor of the continued existence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. There is another conscious substitution of concepts, when the defender is tried to expose as an aggressor.
All the military maneuvers on the territory of the Western and Southern military districts Russia conducts in accordance with a pre-compiled schedule: there is a planned training and rotation of army units in order to increase the speed of response of troops to all potential challenges. Modernization and rearmament of the technical base of the Russian army takes place within the state program on update military equipment which was outdate and not meeting the modern requirements. Thereby, Russia primarily restores own defense potential for protection against external threats.
Despite the general high level of russophobia, sometimes in the West, an objective understanding of the situation is noted among the leadership. At the Senate hearings, Vincent Stewart, head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), said that Russia does not conduct an aggressive policy toward NATO – on the contrary, she tries to "escape from surround" and creates protective barriers for herself.
Meanwhile, there is growing indignation with the actions of the Eastern Europe and the Baltics states that live at taxpayers in Germany, France, Finland and other countries expense, hiding behind only the theses about their "buffer position".
Instead of strengthening mutually beneficial economic cooperation, the Eastern Europe countries continue to be the outpost of the anti-Russian policy of the European Union and NATO. This kind of hysteria about the Russian threat only prevents a constructive dialogue with Russia. At the same time, the economic benefits of cooperation are undeniable. And the Polish "hawks" should pay attention to Finland, which also borders on Russia. This country turned into one of the richest and socially prosperous countries in Europe and became a donor to the EU, which also supported Poland.
