Stoltenberg: NATO will not Participate in Battles against IS
NATO when joining the coalition against the group "Islamic State" will not participate in the battles, but limited to technical support and training of national forces, Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg said.
Responding to a journalist's question about whether NATO can formally join a coalition under the command of the United States, he said that this issue is being discussed. The Secretary General expressed the hope that the decision on this issue will be taken for the NATO summit on May 25.
"If NATO joins the coalition, this will not change the role of NATO. The alliance will not participate in military operations, no one has requested that NATO play a role in military operations either in Syria or in Iraq", – Stoltenberg said at a press conference in Berlin.
