Russia-Turkey: movement towards new goals
Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the meeting in Sochi "looked like the best of friends," reports Bild.
During the press conference held after the meeting, the Russian leader expressed confidence that the relations between Russia and Turkey "normalized". "We are convinced that the period of restoration of normal relations has come to the end," Vladimir Putin said. In turn, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan thanked "his Russian friend for cordial hospitality".
The main topic of the talks was the conflict in Syria. "We will further strengthen our cooperation with Turkey. Our special services and our army will work even more cohesively to fight terror. Erdogan and I agree that stabilization in Syria is possible only through political and diplomatic means", Russian President believed.
Besides, Moscow and Ankara have decided to create a peaceful zone around the city of Idlib. "The situation in Syria moves us to tears. Together we will do everything to end the conflict", Erdogan assured his Russian counterpart.
Also, the leaders of the states agreed on the phasing-out of Russian sanctions against Turkey. Moreover, Vladimir Putin noted that 2019 will be declared "the year of Russian-Turkish tourism". According to Bild, this fact testifies to the additional economic support for Turkey from Russia.
