Welcome to the SCO
According to the Foreign Minister, he hopes that in June in Astana the heads of the SCO member states "will be able to consider the possibility of connecting Iran as a full member of the organization."
Following the results of Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the SCO, Lavrov has reported that all participants of a meeting confirmed the need of a settlement in Syria in accordance to requirements of the UN Security Council resolution 2254. It is about resolving of the Syrian crisis on the basis of dialogue with participation of all Syrians, who have to determine fate of their country.
Iran applied to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2008.
The SCO International Organization was founded in 2001 by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. In July 2015, the procedure of inclusion to the organization of India and Pakistan, which should be completed by the SCO summit in Astana, was started.
The main tasks of the organization proclaimed strengthening of stability and safety, fight against terrorism, separatism, a drug traffic, development of economic cooperation, power partnership, scientific and cultural interaction.
