Meeting of CIS Defense Ministers held in Moscow
The Russian Defense Ministry hosted 70th session of the ministers of defense of the Community of Independent States.
Delegations of Defense Ministries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia took part in the meeting.
The Russian defense minister general of the Army Sergei Shoigu stated at the meeting that international terrorism was the main threat for the world. According to him, it is necessary to expand military cooperation to accelerate fighting against terrorism. He added that the session would strengthen the partnership in order to counter modern threats and challenges taking into consideration national interests and joint priorities of the CIS member states. The session participants discussed issues of interaction between the CIS defense ministries in a military field.
During the session Shoigu had talks with the ministers of defense of Armenia and Azerbaijan. He focused on the prospects of settling the security issues in the region and discussed problems of military technical cooperation.
