Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Friday that 1,675 Ukrainian military servicemen have been killed since the beginning of the armed conflict over a year ago in eastern Ukraine.

"To sum up, 1,675 Ukrainian soldiers gave their lives for our victory," Poroshenko said in a statement during a session of the Verkhovna Rada (country's parliament) dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Nazi's defeat in Europe.

Last year Kiev launched military operation against peaceful residents of Donbas. According to the OSCE, over 6,000 people died in this conflict. At the same time, according to the representatives of Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics, Ukrainian military lost over 3,000 in battles near Debaltseve.
