Palestinian Leader Abbas to Attend Moscow Victory Day Parade On May 9
Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has confirmed his attendance at the upcoming celebrations of 70th anniversary of Nazi Germany capitulation, which are goning to take place in Moscow.
"I have repeatedly participated in such events. We shall be in Moscow on May 9 to celebrate the anniversary of victory over fascism together with the Russian people," Abbas said. Earlier it was reported Russia has sent invitations to numerous world leaders, inviting them to attend the Victory Parade in Moscow in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany and the end of World War II. According to Kremlin chief of staff Sergei Ivanov, representatives of at least 25 states have confirmed their attendance at the Victory Parade.
Leaders of several European states, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven among them, have declined an invitation citing Russia's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian crisis.
