Georgia may return to the CIS - the Russian Foreign Ministry
Mikhail Yevdokimov, director of the first department of CIS states of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said if this be Tbilisi?s appropriate desire and initiative, Georgia may return to the CIS. ?If Georgia has offers, the CIS will not wait for any date,? said the diplomat.
In addition, according to Yevdokimov, the political initiative on the part of Georgia is also required for its cooperation with other integration associations in the post-Soviet space.
Recall that Georgia began the process of withdrawal from the CIS after the August 2008 war. It was announced then by President Mikhail Saakashvili. Later on the initiative of the head of state was supported by the Georgian parliament, and on August 18, 2008 the Georgian Foreign Ministry informed the CIS Executive Committee of the withdrawal from the organization. Georgia officially withdrew from the CIS in a year, in August 2009.
