Brahimi: Syria risks becoming the new Somalia
In an interview with Al-Hayat, the UN-Arab League joint special representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said that Syria risks becoming the new Somalia - a country with no government and where there is a constant civil war between field commanders and militants associated with al-Qaeda.
?The situation in Syria is very dangerous. I believe that if the crisis is not resolved, there is a danger of ?somalization?. This would mean the collapse of the state, strengthening of the field commanders and armed formations,? said Brahimi.
